The Nigerian Senate together with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, The National Security Adviser, Huawei, and Descasio organized a legislative stakeholders awareness training workshop on Cyber and Infrastructure Security for Heads of Federal MDAS.
The workshop took place from the 30th June to Friday 1st July, 2022 at the Army Resource Centre, Abuja.
Participants at the workshop included the Senate President of Nigeria – Sen. Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Security- Sen. Yakubu Oseni, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan and other government officials from several MDAS.
The workshop highlighted ways in championing cyber resilience and setting mechanisms in line with the Cyber Security Policy and Strategy document.
In his welcome remark at the workshop, The Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Security, Senator Yakubu Oseni appreciated Huawei for the right-thinking in collaborating in the workshop. He further commended Huawei Technologies for their “excellent brand in the infrastructure and cyber security architecture and continuous availability in building our digital and cyber trust”.

He furthered stated that the Senate Committee has been holding consultations with a wide spectrum of stakeholders with a view to articulating and stimulating a collective reflection to issues of digital technology. He urged representatives holding trust positions on behalf of the populace to embrace digital technology.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha represented by the Director of ICT, Mr. Isah Francis, in keynote address at the event highlighted that with the emergence of Covid-19, workplace transformation has become a fundamental part of workplace value. He urged all the MDAs to make the public sector more secure in cyberspace.
The National Security Adviser, Major General Mohammed Babagana Monguno, represented by Major General, Samad Akintude, the Director of Communications at the NSA highlighted the need for the society in maintaining a good cyber hygiene. He implored all the top government officials to make a deliberate effort to improve digital literacy and build from the basic level in order to mitigate the strength and achieve cyber resilience.
After the two-days training, more than 400 government officials appreciated the insight derived from the workshop and the organisers and appreciated the whole essence of Cyber Security. The workshop impacted ways of protecting valuable assets and sensitive government information as well as opportunities to build a vibrant and resilient innovation ecosystem for the overall benefit of Nigerians.
