Nigerians have continued to react to the killing of Adamawa politician, Ahmed Gulak with former Senator, Shehu Sani noting that Nigerians should be willing to accept IPOB's denial of culpability in good faith.

In a post on Sunday, he posited that there are forces working to trigger ethnic war between the northerners and the Igbo people of the Southeast.

He called on Nigerians to resist the temptation of joining forces with bad elements anywhere in the society trying to plunge the nation into chaos, adding that IPOB’s statement dissociating themselves from the act should be accepted in good faith.

Shehu Sani wrote…

“The cold blood murder of Ahmed Gulak in Owerri stands unreservedly condemned. The murder has all the elements of some forces trying to trigger an inter ethnic war between Northerners and the Igbos.

“We must resist that plot. The statement by IPOB dissociating themselves from such despicable and barbaric act and even extending their condolences to the family of the late Gulak should be accepted in good faith.

“The Police and other associated security agencies should do a diligent investigation and look beyond hurried finger-pointing.

May Allah grant Ahmed Gulak Aljanna firdausi. Amin.”

The Nigerian Police Force had earlier announced that it had been able to track and kill some of the suspected assailants and along with the Special Assistant on Social Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, alleged that they were members of IPOB.

According to the Police, "..teams from the special forces, PMF, IRT, Imo State Command Tactical Units who have all reached the scene of the killing were directed to immediately proceed on patrol and look for those vehicles.

“Fortunately at Afor Enyi Ogwgu junction in Same LGA, the police teams came in contact with the hoodlums with same vehicles mentioned by the driver. The hoodlums were said to have confiscated a trailer loaded with onions from the North at Enyiogugu, Mbaise, and were busy sharing the onions to the local population as they also took positions to protect themselves and attack any incoming security agents. Three people were killed in that incident.

“The hoodlums on sighting the police teams immediately opened fire on the teams and the gallant teams returned fire and eventually fatally wounded 10 of the hoodlums during the gun battle while others were pursued as they escaped with their vehicles. Three of the four vehicles– Toyota Sienna, Toyota Hilux and Toyota Camry used by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN) terrorists for their operation were demobilised/recovered and 7 of the terrorists with bullet wounds were completely burnt down inside the Toyota Sienna and Hilux vehicles that caught fire during the gun battle.

“Three Ak47 rifles, 1 English pistol, 5 Ak47 magazines, 92 Ak47 ammunition, several charms and 3 operational vehicles of the IPOB/ESN were recovered.

“Serious efforts are in progress to trace and arrest several wounded IPOB/ESN terrorists who are hiding in the surrounding forests and villages. The 3 bodies of the IPOB/ESN terrorists not burnt down were brought to the police state headquarters while efforts to recover the burnt bodies of the hoodlums to the police state HQ are in progress.”

IPOB through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, denied the allegations.

“We, state without equivocations that IPOB knows nothing about the said assassination. In the first place, what threat did the late Gulak constitute to our cause to warrant his elimination. We had nothing in common with him and could not have in any way killed him.

“Pointing fingers at IPOB for this barbaric act is only meant to divert attention from the real masterminds.

“We challenge Aso Rock to institute an independent panel of inquiry to investigate the incident and expose those behind this gruesome murder of an innocent man. Our hearts go out to Gulak’s family. May his soul rest in peace,” Powerful said.
